“ONLY THE BRAVE” – the motion picture that the Honolulu Star Bulletin has called “long overdue” and a “powerful, haunting feature” – is returning to the big screen in Honolulu for a one-time screening at the Hawaii Theatre at 7 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, sponsored by the KYOCERA Corporation . Proceeds from the box office will benefit the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai’i, and from DVD sales that night to the 100th Battalion Veterans Club and the 442nd Veteran Club.
Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 each. To purchase tickets in advance, call 808-528-0506. DVDs of the film can be purchased at the March 18 screening or by visiting www.OnlyTheBraveMovie.com. The Hawaii Theatre is located at 1130 Bethel Street, Honolulu.
The event is part of a 30-city tour by Hawaiian-born filmmaker Lane Nishikawa – who will be present at the 3/18 screening – to mark the DVD release of his acclaimed motion picture — which was an official selection at 17 U.S. film festivals, including the STARZ Denver International Film Festival, where it won the coveted Audience Award.
“ONLY THE BRAVE” stars Jason Scott Lee, Mark Dacascos, Yuji Okumoto, Tamilyn Tomita and the late Pat Morita in a searing portrait of war and prejudice that takes viewers on a haunting journey into the hearts and minds of the forgotten heroes of World War II – the all-volunteer, Japanese American 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team. The first motion picture about the 100th/442nd as seen through the eyes of the men who lived it, the story is based on the actual experiences of Nishikawa’s four Nisei uncles who served in the 100th/442nd – as well as other veterans who shared their memories with him over the years.
