The East Bay’s premier professional dance company will be forced to close unless $500,000 in funding for the 2007-2008 season is raised by July 1, 2007, it was announced today by Artistic Director Lauren Jonas. Based in Walnut Creek, the internationally-acclaimed company will complete its current season with a 20% increase in season ticket sales, a balanced budget of $950,000 and no debt. However, its co-founder and leading benefactor, Ashraf Habibullah, announced recently that he intends to step down as president of the board of directors at the close of the current season. His departure leaves a significant shortfall in the company’s budget.
